Reich's Cultural Parable's

Jon Stewart, host of the The Daily Show on Comedy Central, usually shares recent events and poke fun at what has happened. It is definitely a comedic show with real stories throughout the world. In this case, he tries starts his show by sharing what has happened in Charleston, South Carolina with the church shooting that was racially motivated.

As he is trying to keep his composure during his show, I felt that the Benevolent Community is applicable when talking about Reich's Cultural Parables. The premise of this speech was driven by his emotion and attitude. He was very heartfelt as he was explaining the tragedy that has happened. He invited his viewers to open up and take his perspective on whats going on with America today. Stewart has shared the history of America, he shared what he thought was damaging the United States of America and kind of shared what could be a solution in helping the United States become a better country.

  1. It was incredibly interesting to see this side of him. I think it really made an impact. I would also say this has a little bit of mob at the gates feel to it as well. That we have a strong community and we are potentially letting people in to destroy it. Great pick!

    1. That was my biggest decision to make is which would this fit better in, Benevolent Community or Mob at the Gates. I felt it could have been either. Thanks for your sight

  2. This is one of those that you could apply a few of the parables to. But I think that you made the right choice in this one. I appreciated how he handled the situation rather than trying to make a joke out of the seriousness of the atrocity. He was criticized for it from some people but I think he handled it great by trying to rally people instead of tear things down more than they already were.

    1. I would totally agree with you on the way he handled the situation. I think he was trying to be positive and really open the eyes of everyone.
