Become A Teacher

Ministry of Education, put an ad out in 2011 about the importance of not only attending the right school but having the right teachers. Simply showing the positive impact that one teacher can have on a student.

The ad starts out with a young man pulling up to a school and getting out of his car. Then as he travels through the school, the young man by the name of Edwin has flashbacks to when he was attending that school. It shows glimpses of him as young teenager and struggling through school. It goes back and forth with Edwin making bad decisions but the teacher always checking up on him and him always ignoring her. Then comes the text, "Didn't you have bigger Dreams, Edwin?" Then it goes back to the present time as he a grown man and takes Mrs.Chong out to dinner as he once promised.

Abilities: It is quite evident in the ability not only with the teacher that is being portrayed but also the student. The student seemed to make some wrong choices but it was also the teacher that went out of her way to reach out to that student. The motivational factor shows that a little extra effort goes a long way. As the student had his learning curve and that he ended up becoming the man he wanted and needed to be.

Trigger: In the video we understand that the teacher saw potential in the student and understood what he could do. And even though the student never responded to her text messages, she was a positive voice throughout his life. And that triggered him to become the man he really wanted to be.

The premise of this ad displays emotional security and reassurence of worth. The teacher constantly being positive and checking up with the student is a sign of that. According to the Maslow's Hierarchy this ad demostrates most of which he teaches, with esteem, belonging, safety, self-actualization. It is a very joyful and positive ad, in a sense it could display a sense of fear in not knowing what can happen. When I watch this ad I think to myself a bumper sticker I remember seeing when I was very young, "If you can read this, thank a teacher." How true that is especially with personal experiences and how I can relate to this young man that this teacher never gave up on.
